time to kill in L.A.

ok, maybe that thread title reads wrong. i am not looking to go on a shooting rampage in L.A. :p

i will be down there for a night and part of a day before i leave for cambodia. i fly in next friday afternoon.

i am looking for a good club to hit. maybe a cool place to eat. or a music store to pass the hours on saturday.

anyone got a gig that nite? or know where the hotties hangout so i can get a drink or two thrown in my face? y'know, just looking for some fun before i take off.

thoughts from the socal crew?

thanks!

Sure, you can try that one place on Sunset, or that other one down on Santa Monica.... j/k

If you're around during the day hit up Melrose, lots of cool shops, bars, & restaurants. If you were coming this weekend you could have seen my new band (not really new, they've been around since I was in high school, but I recently joined up with them).

where are you staying? the hot spots in l.a. can be pretty spread out and with traffic a 15 mile trip can take the better part of an hour. my only advice is not to waste more time than you have to sitting in a car.

if you've never been, hollywood can be a trip but it's over-rated IMO. santa monica can be a nice place to kill a day, hit some clubs/cool bars etc and it's not too far from LAX. downtown l.a. has a newish nokia center outside of staples center, but i'm not sure it would warrant the trip through city traffic.

yeah, i forgot to think in terms of getting places. i am flying into lax. i won't have a vehicle. and as i understand it, public trans doesn't exist.

i spent a day/nite in santa monica maybe 10 yrs ago. it was pretty nice. my ex's sister lives there. she sent me an xmas card last month, which i thought was a nice "reaching out" gesture. i am contemplating hitting her up for a place to stay. not sure if its a good idea.

i doubt i will get too far from the airport area, unless there is a bass shop worth getting to at all costs?

There's only one option...

this may be of some use for you:

those bus stops are everywhere in santa monica so if you're stuck without a car you can wander around and do your thing and not worry about transpo.

as far as bass shops, i don't think there's anything that is "must see" especially with only one day at your disposal. if i only had a day, i'd find a hole in the wall joint for a killer burrito, then knock back a beer or two on a patio by the beach for the afternoon/evening. the weather is nice right now and a cali sunset over the ocean is worth a look.
