Time to tell the truth: how much does your bass weigh?

  • "LullDowsky" 4-string (Sadowsky body with Mike Lull neck and build, and pickups/electronics by Aguilar) -- 7 lbs. (digital scale actually says 6 lbs., 15.6 oz.); built about 2009 to early 2010 at Mike Lull Custom Guitars.
  • Birdsong Cortobass #10C-201 -- 7 lbs., 8 oz.; built in 2010, hence the #10 at the beginning of the serial no.
  • Birdsong Double Fusion #12F-033 -- 7 lbs., 6 oz.; just completed in early April, 2012, hence the #12 at the beginning of the serial no.
  • LowEnd/Benevente OM5 #001 -- 8 lbs., 6 oz.; built for the 2009 NAMM Show, so I suspect it was completed between 12/2008 and 01/2009.
  • Valenti 5-string #135 -- 8 lbs, 9.6 oz.; just completed in early 2012.
  • My wife's Ibanez Soundgear Prestige 5-string -- 8lbs., 14 oz.; this is truly a one-of-a-kind prototype, built at the Ibanez Japan factory in 2011 (they built exactly one 4-string and one 5-string with highly-figured flame maple tops and backs, wenge necks and fingerboards and the Ibanez 3-band preamp with midrange sweep.

I haven't weighed all mine, but the ends of the spectrum are:

Moses Kei Factor 5 headless - 7lb
Kramer XL24 w/khaler - 13lb +

needless to say I'm gigging the Moses, escpecially since still recovering from a hernia op a few weeks ago.

Never worried about the weights of any of them until I hit 40, since then it's been my main factor in which to grab for the gig.

Kids, it's all downhill once you turn 40 :)

The latest one, 8.2 lbs

I have no idea what my Jag SS weighs. From other reports some say they're about 7lbs +. Although I bought mine used and it was shipped to me, and the shipping tag said 12lbs With I what I figure to be maybe 1-1/2 lbs in the cardboard and bubble wrap? I don't know. My Jag does feel like it's on the heavier side, like maybe 8.5-9lbs. It has zero neck dive even with a cheap 2-1/2" nylon strap.

I picked up a Silvertone the other day off a high rack and nearly put it through the ceiling of the local shop, the damn thing had to weigh 6lbs or less. I could helicopter it over my head like one of those ninja staffs. :D

Damn, Shifty. Be careful with that, brother...young or not, necks (human ones) don't like getting pulled in funny directions, neither quickly, nor over extended periods of time :P

Ibanez SB-1200 (mahogany/3-piece maple 1992): 8.0lbs
Ibanez SB-1500 (bubinga/wenge 1992): 10.2lbs
Human BaseX.oc5 (swamp ash/3-piece hard rock maple 2008?): 9.0lbs
Skjold Pro Series 5 (black limba/3-piece maple 2005): 8.6lbs

Heading over to Plantbrain's house...doot de doo. Been practicing the vulcan neck pinch on a buddy's dog, time for the real thing.

9.5 lbs for the Hog

I can't use that information. Make and model, please. If the brand is "Hog", then please confirm - I've never heard of it.

Let me politely ask everyone to please provide

Brand (Fender, Gibson, etc)
Model (Precision, Skyline, etc)
Build year if known
Any special features that might change the weight

There are many basses I do not recognize from a photo, and I don't know the slang names or abbreviations for a lot of basses. Please be specific.
