Tina Weymouth

I missed this whole band in their heyday, and would ignorantly joke about David Byrne being ridiculous. David Byrne is the coolest friggin dude ever. Incredible.

And I love her playing. And hubba hubba.
They very much were a u.f.o. on the scene at the time. Sometimes it takes a bit of hindsight, unfortunately, to understand that something new and great is happening. I've had to catch up on a few bands after dismissing them myself.

This my favorite track...

I love how her lines work against the song's rhythm, and yet propel it along. I followed the band back in the day, thought her playing was quirky but interesting, not the usual stuff, but that tune was my lightbulb moment, just brilliant, complexity through simplicity. I even got to meet her at a gig(under Chris' watchful eyes, of course), just a sweetheart.

It's been haunting me for 4 days now. Kim Deal is bass. And even though she doesn't play bass in the Breeders, she inspires "basseness".
And so she does it again with her sister and with Josephine Wiggs. And it's perfect.

Kelley Deal put out a fantastic album last fall under the name "R Ring". Well worth a few listens, pairs nicely with the new Breeders album. Not trying to derail the thread, just one Breeders fan to another. Cheers!

She dances like no other bass player, too. That hunched over thing she does with her knees together - never seen another person move like that. :)

She was an excellent minimalist style bassist when she was with Talking Heads. I give her credit for being able to work with one of the most egotistical and difficult BLs in the music world as long as she did. Didn't keep her from getting the notorious "David Byrne Burn" like most everybody who ever worked with him did. But that's the way it goes.

And yeah, she could make some moves when she wanted to. And never once missed a beat. Very athletic lady too ...
