Tip jar encouragement

We have a bike horn and a gong on our tip jar which hangs on an old lamp stand-----You wouldn't believe how much people want to bang the gong and honk the horn while we are playing....but they can't do it without tipping---50$ a night on average!

We simply put out a beat up straw cowboy hat in front of us and I stick a couple of bucks "seed money" in it. Seems to work.

We would always play Travis Tritt's "Here's a quarter, call someone you care". After letting the audience pelt us with quarters on the first chorus , we would always change the 2nd to "Here's a dollar". If that was successful, we would always try, with no luck, for "Here's a twenty" on the end tag.
