Tips/Advice for learning to write with LaTeX

Hi guys, not been around much recently, how you all doing?

Basically have had it dumped onto me that I should learn how to use LaTeX, that is the typesetting language, and not at all related to my kinky weekends. Annnnyyyyhoowwss . . .

Looking for any advice on places to look for learning to use LaTeX, any good books on it, which programs are the best to work with etc. etc.

Hi. I use LaTeX a lot in documenting my research. It's got a pretty steep learning curve, but once you get used to it, it creates some great documents, especially if you use a lot of equations. It helps if you're kind of computer-savvy, if not it can be tough to use. Also, it's very platform independent. I use linux, pc and mac, and it works pretty much the same on each.

There's a lot of info out there on the web, but start with The (Not So) Short Introduction to LaTeX2e available here -> Link Removed

I haven't bothered getting any books, because pretty much everything you need to know is on the web somewhere. Just ask google anything.

Which computer platform are you using?

In Windoze, I use WinEdt as a LaTeX friendly text editor -> http://www.winedt.com/. MiKTeX is the typesetting installation -> http://miktex.org/.

On the Mac, I use TeXShop -> http://www.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/

In linux, I use Kile -> http://kile.sourceforge.net/
