TL-606 Advice and Recommendations

The coating was supposed to improve scuff resistance under excessive excursion as well as improving the adhesives used.

In practice, I don't think the coating helped as much as the marketing suggested. The failure rates didn't appear to improve much.
A practical question for you Andy. My EVM-15L have the big black magnet with a aluminium silver and blue sticker with no mention of the power rating on it. Can you tell me which serie it is ? Is it rated 200 or 400 w.? I am not worried about that since I drive them very conservatively but I am curious to know which one it is.

Used my MESA Road Ready 115 at practice last night, but then I always do as I leave it in the rehearsal space. When I got it the original EV was gone so I put in a Eminence 3015. It has more than enough with my Streamliner 900 to keep up with a loud ass drummer and two guitarists with the Master Volume at 9 o'clock. In fact I had to turn it down last night. I'm old school I guess, I love 15's but I mostly use 12's anymore.

Every now and again I do bring it out to a gig for fun though. In the right room it is more than enough.

It's impossible to tell because the different part is on the inside. It could have been reconed, virtually all recone kits available post series 2 days ended up being the pro line kits.

If you have the factory original parts, the driver would be labeled "pro line" somewhere in the model number OR another way to tell is that it would have the EV factory part numbers as follows (8 ohm)

EVM-15L series 2: 815-0180, 0529, 2012, 9462

EVM-15L Proline: 815-2057, 2072 and there may be others but my factory service data ends 6/1/1992

This is going back quite a few years but that may be the original version before the series 2, derived from the SRO series. Iirc, all of the series 2's with the "beauty cover" had red labels, not blue.

I haven’t done it, but I reckon you could flog a 3015 a darn sight harder than an EVM.

What the purpose of this cover? Look, heatsink, magnetic field, if I unscrew it what's happen? Weight saving?
It is purely cosmetic. The OEM version does not have this cover installed, if you remove it, the EV part number should be stamped on the back plate.

Haha, I ain't afraid to throw a couple 18's on stage :D:bassist:

A pair of TL405s with EVM18Bs is definitely a good sounding rig. I think most people would be surprised by how nice the high frequency extension and off axis response is.

I can just barely manage to stack my pair vertically without assistance. Carting one up the stairs or lifting them on stage is a total non-starter though, since I made them from MDF.

I also have a Greenboy Dually loaded with Faital 15PR400. The EVMs get louder with less power, but they start to compress fairly early and the Dually just gets louder and louder. Keep in mind EV rated the TL405 at 100W. The EVM18Bs have nicer mids and highs IMHO. The Faitals are super flat.

I can carry the Dually up the stairs with one hand.

With one hand! I would like to see what you put in your cereal bowl in the morning...:smug:
