That is petty close to the situation. I found running all ports open and extend the port shelf optimizes everything pretty well.

Another vote for the "close-enough" 3015. If you won't be pushing too much power through both cabs, the 2515 is an excellent driver in the TL606. I think there's a wee bit more top and bottom than with the 3015. Slightly less expensive as well.

Thank You for EVERYONE’s Input on this. Been following & I have read through them all more than once. Looks like it truly is “In the Ear of the Beholder”, as there isn’t a clear cut consensus either way. What we did do though, is succeed in convincing me that the ‘ole A / B testing would be best :). I’ll prep them all for the Port Covers On, & then use Wood Fill for the holes if I don’t end up preferring them (not like they were ever living room quality in the first place lol, and just a few trips out to the gigs and they’ll look well used anyway).

One more question that comes to mind is: Does anyone have the schematic of the 6 db filter (that was once provided by EV). But I would think that just as much could be accomplished simply by the tone shaping on most amps. More discussion Please.

having just went through this quest myself (see thread) with different compact 15 cabs and the 3015, i suspect the answer will be "covers on" if that leads to a lower cab tuning.

with my rig (amp HPF at 30Hz) the higher mid-50s cab tuning led to farty-sounding low notes when hit hard. i lengthened my port tubes to get the box down to 45Hz and that tightened up things nicely, at the cost of maybe not as much overall loudness at the same amp level.

the rig (two single 15s, PLX power amp, sansamp BDDI) now sounds "faster" and more even, almost like you'd imagine good sealed cabs would sound.

the obvious answer is to make removable port covers!

piece of wood with thru-holes in the corners, made to fit over the center port and get bolted in. make it fancy with threaded inserts in the cab holes.

Of one further footnote, I glued egg crate acoustic foam to the top, back AND both sides of the cabinets, my preference (internally of course, lol), with 3M 77 spray adhesive (Follow directions, DO NOT apply indoors, and why I had to wait several month’s before completing the projects. Michigan winters are LONG). I did just one little “spritz” on a two inch square of foam indoors, to test the adhesion to wood, & my arms were instantly covered with droplets. Can’t imagine if that crap got into the lungs. Used a mask throughout (guess we’re all pretty used to that now). Been jamming with them at practice since Spring, overall, Pleased with the results. Haven't gigged out since Feb. Yes "a definitive answer" & the "veterinarian" gave the cabs a clean bill of health before riding off into the sunset. lol. Thanks!

Bringing this old horse back through the stable again!
Does anyone make a kit with pre cut lightweight birch lumber for a TL606 style build?
My TL606 in oak plywood is just too heavy and I have a mint 3015 that would be just right for some gigs in 2023.
Yes, I could buy lumber and cut but don't have warm space or time to do this right now.

It might be worth finding out how close some of the more contemporary panel kits are, in terms of interior volume and port tuning. My rationale is that the TL606 is "just" a basic ported box, albeit designed to survive heavy touring conditions. It was designed for a certain driver, but now you're using a different driver. So, a basic ported box designed using more lightweight techniques might serve you quite well.

Also, the 3015 may have more excursion than the EVM-15B, and might need a more generous port to avoid turbulence.
