All I know from my experience is it’s the best preamp for the Ehrlund EAP including Ehrulund’s own preamp.

This has also been my experience with the same setup. I've used the EAP and the RedEye with several different heads and cabs and it's always been at least decent and workable.and sounded as good as any rig I've used.

The EAP and the RedEye Twin are a “match made in heaven” with my bass and any amplifier I should choose to connect it to. Traynor SB 106, Ampeg B-15N, GR Bass AT Cube Acoustic, Grace Felix/ MAS 1/8 (powered version) even a Fender Rumble 1x15.

My little bluegrass pedal board includes a Red Eye preamp and a Genzler re/Q (HPF/LPF and EQ). I’ve also used the Red Eye by itself as a DI when there is FOH (rare in my world). The Red Eye’s impedance matching is the secret sauce with simple piezo wing pickups, such as the K&K and Vic’s on my Kays. The treble control is useful as a single-knob attack-noise control — I tend to roll off the zing on my steel-strung bass and crank up the attack on my gut-strung instrument. The Red Eye’s XLR out feeds the effects return on whatever head I’m using; the head’s DI out feeds the band’s PA or FOH.

That is my 1950 C1. Body is in fabulous condition on this one. Setup was “hot-rodded” before I got it with a modernized neck block with increased overstand, thick ebony fingerboard, and 7” tall bridge. Strung with low-action Spiros. Super punchy, fast response, and very centered pitch. I also have a ‘41 S-9 (high action, low tension gut) and a ‘53 M1-B that needs a new bridge. Cabinet is my Revsound RS210 — it’s 30 lbs of crisp, clear sonic goodness. David also just built me a RS28V (20 lbs), which is going to serve as my compact grab n go rig. First gig with that this weekend!
