Double Bass To double or not to double suggestions

Last night I doubled using my fretless J and big bass into an MB115. This was a three hour gig where I split the time about 50/50 between instruments. I think that unless I was planning on using one of the two basses for at least 1/3 the night I'd just make the other one work for the whole evening. Similarly, I doubt that I'd bring both for a short gig. There comes a point where lugging both around just isn't worth it if one is only getting played for a couple songs.

I personally like having two outboard preamps, one for each instrument, when doubling. Just setting the amp to work for bass guitar then fixing that EQ for upright (and vice versa) sounds too processed to my ear. Used a SIB Fatdrive with the fretless J and a Fishman Pro Plat EQ for the double bass. I really need an A/B switch, but just reaching over and swapping cords into the input jack worked fine for me.

sidenote: I like the FOH guy at that venue last night. He runs me with virtually no EQ and lets me control the tone from on stage with those outboard pre's. Some yay-who's who immediately start twisting EQ knobs on the bass channel pigeonholing me. Running my fader "flat" lets me get away with a single DI send for both instruments, which I can't always do.

I guess that would work a bit better with EUB and BG than DB and BG.. It seems like it's pretty hard to get a good sound from DB and BG without changing EQ on the amp

I put Link Removed between each instrument then to an A/B/C splitter (or sometimes a 5-in line mixer), then to a power amp. This'll take care of different EQ settings and volume level.

Not only do I OFTEN drag along an Electric Bass and EUB, the Stick and Moog Taurus 3 come along, as well.

I have an anaphylactic allergy to playing any sort of walking line on porkchop. My throat closes up and I can breathe in about 30 secs.

You should see a doctor about that correctable condition. I have NO problem (nor do MANY) walking on DB, EUB or Pork Chop. The Stick is a bit difficult for me, since it's tuned in 5ths with the lowest pitched string near the middle of the neck - imagine a reciprocal layout of the 'usual' bass tuning and string arrangement.
