To downsize or not to downsize

Let your wife pick out a nice cloth table cloth to put over your 1x15 and use it as an end table or something. Stash the tube amp in a closet because you love it and get little class D head that you can stash behind the cabinet and put it on top when you want to play.....done!

If you like your current sound and the only issue is space, could you find a way to conceal the cab? Under a table or desk?

I would really have a hard time giving up a tube amp purchased by my parents. Talk about the sentimental value as the amp and you age! Priceless.

How about keeping the amp and buying a smaller cabinet?

find a nice scarf in a pattern your wife likes, cover the amp & cabinet with it so it looks nice in the room, put a small vase with fresh flowers on top of it when you are not playing with it.

Keep the flowers fresh, in the vase and with your wife.

Not going to get into your personal discussions (what you want vs. what wifey wants), but to me it comes down to practicality:
1) Will you ever gig again and is this the amp you'd use for that? If yes, Keep it.
If No
2) Will a smaller rig really give you practical "extra space"? If No, keep it
If Yes
3) Is replacing a paid off working rig that you like with something that is unknown going to be a financial burden? IF yes, Keep it
If No,
Only the two of you can sort it out if you get to here in the logic chain and it just comes down to making your wifey happy. It's almost always good to make wifey happy, but will you be?

I have no wifey so I don't face this issue, but my general approach to this is "This equipment came with me in the deal. It hasn't been an issue so far, so why is it now? Do you really want me to go into GAS mode, spending a bunch of money on gear to gain a square foot or two of floor space?"

A bit simplistic, I know, but seriously, this is petty much what it boils down to.

Normally I would say get a Genzler MG350 1x10 combo. It's small, light and easy to carry. But none of that matters in your case. You have a rig you like. It's paid for. It's not really that big. Put it in a corner or wherever it's most out of the way and enjoy it.

Me personally, guitars and amps are like guns. NEVER sell one to buy another. Keep it all and just save to buy more. Avoid sellers remorse at all cost. I have memories of vintage Fenders and a Carl Thompson that haunt me to this day.

I wouldn't sell the Yorkville set and put it in storage instead for now. As it has been yours for so long and was a gift from your parents, you are going to regret selling it (I would).

To play around the house and small shows, consider the Quilter Interbass. Totally does the trick in pedal size.

Was discussing with the mrs the other day about my amp set up.
It’s a tranyor yba200 and 1x15 cab
I don’t currently play in a band or out any where and just use it for home practice
It’s defiantly overkill but I love its tuby goodness. Just too much for what I need .

she thinks it takes up too much space in the house and I should ditch it for something much smaller. And put the money toward something else.

I’ve had this setup for the past 10 years it was a gift from my parents back when I was in collage and still played out quite frequently.
I love it’s tone being all tube but I kind of agree whit her in some ways

we were at the local music stores the other day picking up my Xmas present
(Ehx bass mono synth) and she pointed out some smaller amps that might be better for my situation.

what are your guys opinion on downsizing in this matter what are good options?
I’ve looked at a couple I might like but haven’t tried yet

Tech 21 vt bass 200
Fender rumble 200
Vox mini super beatle bass
Amped mini svt

or keep the yba200 and get a smaller cab

or a smaller cab and head set up

Do you *absolutely* need to downsize? Is that space really a problem?

If it were some other random gear, I'd be ok to change it, but if it's a nice amp my parents bought for me etc... I'd keep it. If space is an issue, I'd first look at other ways to free space.

A gift from your parents and that you like how it sounds trumps every other concern. Except! Is your home so small that your gear is your coffee table?

Seriously can you tell her the reasons it’s important to you to keep it? She may see this from a size perspective but may not know what’s important to you. These discussions bring harmony to relationships.

I'm glad you were able to reach a compromise.

Years ago, I had a large and nice apartment, and my girlfriend moved in with me. She only had one condition about my guitars etc: they are not to be all over the place, but stored in my little music room.

Some people don't think a stack of speakers look good in their living room. It seems alien to me but...

Offer to put a 2×3 piece of plywood on top and throw a tablecloth over it so when company comes she could use it as a functional place to put the horderves. Done

For a few years, I did something like this with an SWR 4x10 cab. It lived in the corner of our living room covered by a decorative cloth, with a reading lamp on top. It was totally camouflaged, and occasionally served as a platform for little ones watching TV. I had a small practice amp, so the SWR only came out for gigs.

I'm inching toward downsizing my guitar and bass amps, but obviously I'm starting with the guitar stuff. I still haven't decided how to approach the bass gear, apart from definitely selling the larger and heavier of my two G-K heads.

Glad you guys worked it out. I find it important the have a good sound to practice with. My old Trace Elliot 1x15 maybe ugly as sin, but sounds fantastic. Fortunately my wife could care less..
