To Me, Fender Is.......

Not only rock n roll, what about all the other genres of music ?

Fenders were concieved by an engineer who wanted practicality, simplicity and functionality built in alongside style, comfort and sound, he succeeded where others failed !

...is the Titanic movie of musical instruments. Which is why I won't own one. Not to mention standard advice these days (even among Fender folks) is you have to play a bunch to find a good one. Marvelous history yes, just like your local grocery store until Costco came along and changed everything.. MMMmmm COSTCO.

While Leo didn't invent the electric bass, he was one of it's best pioneers, and certainly, his designs are still every bit as viable ever, and are, indeed industry icons

Precision. Jazz. Stingray. L2000.

Many, many past and current bass builders have built their careers on foundations Leo laid.

I still own and use several Leo built basses, and, many "Leo inspired" basses from current builders.

The basses that I used to love to hate.

Fender is also the first bass that I take when I am not quite sure what I'll be playing, and the last bass that I would sell, without first having a replacement in hand.

There are basses that look better, basses that sound better, basses that feel better, and basses that cut in the mix better.
Yet there are none that can do all of these simultaneously as well as Fender.

I predict that you will own one some day, and reflect back on how foolish you were.
I don't have to play a bunch to find a good one. In over 40 years, played very few bad ones.
No bass "COSTCO" has been able to put them out of business.

To me, Fender WAS "THE BASS", now it's crap, just yesterday I've played 4 precisions (USA Standard), 1 Vintage 60's Precision (USA), Roadworn Jazz and 5 different Telecasters (mexico & USA) brand new in the store... Only one precision bass was good enough for me to play it more than 2 minutes, and it was Am. Std. and one Telecaster, and it was some USA special run or something, it was the most expensive one, but even that one wasn't feeling right. I said to myself, Fender never again... Now I'm playing MusicMan StingRay and fender-like Laklands, so I do love the design, but not todays quality of a Fender
