Just a quick note:
If you are to use a direct box (good quality hopefully - Radial Passive being my go-to) and mic your cabinet with a good microphone (I prefer Heil microphones) there may be a polarity issue. You will many times have to engage the polarity reverse switch (at the DI or console usually). If this isn't considered, your sound could be much thinner than you would have hoped.
I run analog pedals into my amp and send a XLR signal to the PA always. I am usually running sound as well and seem to get a great tone from what others have told me.
