Initially, you were quoting wrong specs for the amp.

I've been playing long enough to know the ins and outs of Ohm's where cabs are concerned.

While I'm assuming you were originally trying to help,lectures don't really help do they ?
After all, it's only an opinion

Hey guys!

Thanks for the info. When rewiring a speakon cable, is it pretty simple? I have two speakons I currently use and I'm pretty sure both ends are 1+ Hot and 1+ return. Do I just take the connector off of one end of the cable to rewire it to 1+ Hot 2+ Return for the mono-bridge connection? I guess I understand what needs to be done, just not exactly how to do it (I'm not much of a wiring genius).

Hey Justin, the back of the speakon will unscrew. when it's open you'll notice the numbers are stamped near the pins. Unscrew the 1- and place it in the 2+. This end is the one that will go into the amp (but I think you already have this end setup, eh?) Your speaker end will be 1+ (from the 1+ at the amp end) and 1- (from the 2+ at the amp end). Be sure your bridged mono switch is in the proper position. If you need to use a tool to unscrew the speakon piece be sure to use a cloth or something so you don't tear up your connector. Then use a philips head screwdriver unless it's an older speakon then you may need an allen wrench. tada!

The two cabs together will be louder at the same power than one cabinet, given that all cabinets are the same. It is due to efficiency which will be higher for the two cabinet (acoustic coupling). A "rule of thumb" is that they will be about 3dB louder than a single cabinet. It is the same reason that you see many 410s being about 3dB more efficient than a 210.

the socket wouldnt work unless... you pushed the lead to one side... tried a different cable.. still didnt work.

The cab is a warwick 2x10 and it has two speakons and two xlrs to use as speaker jacks... this is so you can daisy chain the cabs.

Are they neutrik speakon's? If you pull the cabinet panel you can check the contacts of the speakon. If the problem is internal on the speakon then you probably don't have true Neutrik's. You can change that pretty easily. Is this the biamped cab with the horn?

The Neutrik Products will have their name or a little NT (N is superimposed over the T). I checked out the cab at a Warwick site but they only listed them as speakon compatible with Switchcraft or others. This leads me to believe they are not Neutrik because they aren't using the trademark name. Change them out for real Neutriks yourself! It will give you piece of mind at your next concert. :hmm:

edit: here's a pic of a clone falling apart (cable end). Neutrik will not do this.

I've got a question similar to that of the original post in this thread, concerning what speaker cable I should use for my setup.

I just ordered an Aguilar GS212, which I believe has 1/4" and Speakon connections. I'm not sure what would be the best choice for a speaker cable between it and my Aguilar DB728. I would use a Speakon-Speakon cable, but my 728 is an older model, before they started putting Speakon outputs on them.

I was thinking that this would be my best choice, plugging the banana-plug end into the 728 and the Speakon into the 212. Is this a good idea? Or should I do something else?

I would go with the banana connector. IF you have the option to leave your cable hooked up you can save a couple of bucks by inserting your speaker cable into the binding post holes. Check to be sure the fat max's use the real Neutrik connectors. Or give us a shot at a quote for you.

Chris_AtariDoll, give us a shot as well at a quote (including shipping). Otherwise I would suggest a web search for NL4MP round.

Unless Carvin has changed recently they don't use Neutrik on their cables. I've repair/replaced ends from the cables they send out with their gear. The best way to know is to ask before you buy. there are some Neutrik clones, including the logo, out there.
