Additionally , anyone wondering what size gigbag to obtain for this instrument might be advised to go for a 1/8 size bag. I ordered a mooradian and it fits well lengthwise , although the body "swims" around a bit in the lower part of the case. I wasn't satisfied with Toby's gigbag; no shoulder straps , no pockets, and very little interior padding.

The Arco is coming in a hardcase, but I'll have a look around to see if I can find a decent 1/8 DB gig bag. Have to say I absolutely love my iGig bag for my EBGs, but not sure if they're into doing custom jobs.

Does anyone have any recommendations in the way of good build quality 1/8 DB gig bags?

I know it's been a while but a few guys were ordering these a few years back. What is your thought on these basses.

I had one for a while. It was a beautiful thing and lovely to play. I sold it because I could not get used to a non D stop so when it came down to it the NS with D stop added got the nod. I am lame that way. I would love to own another but this time scaled so that D was where I expected. It really was sublimely beautiful.

I'm guessing that the "stop" was closer to E or even F. I've often wondered if the Arco bass dimensionally was not very close to a 1/4 size DB neck spliced onto a 4/4 cello body. Peredur (okay, which knight is that in Mallory?), since you've owned an AB, can you offer any insight on my speculation?

Now that my brain has been prodded about this, what I actually did was to move the bridge quite a lot further down which opened up the scale length. I cannot remember what the stop was, but it did not work for me. I must stress, I was asking the instrument to do something it was not designed to do and when it was set up as it was designed to be it was a joy. IIRC the stop was designed to be at the octave.

Your ideas about construction seem to ring bells but it was a long time ago and I do not want "something that was written on the internet" to be seen as the definiteve information on a piece of kit because his work really is superb and I cannot remember measurements.

I would say that the best way to conceptualize the Arco is by imagining an electric bass mensur on a 1/8 size doublebass body. The neck heel stop is an e, or perhaps an f
