Toby Guitar Amplifier

I knew of a company called Toby in Ft. Worth. They sold shop-built musical instrument and stereo speakers back in the late '60s and early '70s. I'm not sure if this is the same company that made this amp, but it would have been in their ballpark. Believe it or not, there's still a company operating in the Ft. Worth area under that name -- they sell stereo speakers and powered subs. Maybe it's a long shot, but it might be worth trying to contact them. Toby

Late edit: Further searching on 'Toby amplifier' yielded this old post on CL -- there's not much there, but maybe it's a clue. I had forgotten that I had contributed my admittedly limited knowledge there. And now @abarson beat me to posting that link. :thumbsup:

Or are you talking about a guitar amp, which wouldn’t be a great choice for bass?
No, I'm talking about an amplifier made in Texas in 1967. They made guitar and bass amps and they were fliptops, there are pic of them on the talkbass site
my friend wants to buy one he played one in the late 60's very rare amps so we are just looking for them

Hi, thank's Do they have a web site? That fort worth location is where these amps were made and my buddy played one back then.
We are from Milwaukee, Wi. and there was a music store here that had a some and he got to try them out, so now he wants to buy one if they can be found

Being from the Milwaukee area, you may remember the Eros amps made in Waukesha. I have a couple. Dave Tews owned The Combo Spot store in Waukesha. He made these. Here is one of mine.

Yeah, I included the link in an earlier post. I don't care for the way hot links appear in the new format -- it's not obvious that they're links.

>>> Toby site
What you can do is add bb code for underline to the url code. (Superfluous spaces added for clarity)

You were right, it is the same company. I found this company bio at the bottom of the page you linked. There is also another titled “Goodbye, old friend” with a tribute to the founder, who passed away 10 years ago.

All through the 80s and 90s I was an avid reader of hi-fi and car stereo magazines, so it’s surprising I never heard of this company, especially living in Texas. Growing up in Houston in the ’60s and ’70s, there was a local company called Allen that made guitar and PA speakers. So it’s surprising I never saw Toby “filter down” from FW.

Hopefully @TobyJr can help the OP with any questions.
