...but I am quite sure he'd be able to build such a bass with one truss rod and no graphite?

Definitely ! But if you want a good low B at 31" stiffness must not be taken lightly...Now if it's not enough I'll probably go EADGCF instead of BEADGC.

When you're a thirsty unfinished bass you must drink SATIN (no subliminal message here , I'm a christian ) :

That spalted thing is acting like a sponge, drinking varnish like crazy. I think the two worst woods to finish are buckeye burl and spalted maple... But it looks so good !! More news soon !

That came out just beautiful. I can really appreciate a nice satin finish on an instrument with such lovely wood and contours. Makes you want to pick it up and play it.

I would have to wire it up passive, or go with something else in the mean time. That thing is just to nice to not be playing already.
