I contacted Mr.Martin years ago, I can't even remember what it was about. He struck me as being a very nice gentleman.... very generous with his time, even though he obviously has much more important business on his schedule.

i enjoyed watching this little video, thankyou for sharing it .
i have been listening to Tom's recordings of Bottesini for a while, beautiful playing and i'm sure his double basses would be lovely instruments to play and hear.
he has his own website , where he has listed new and old instruments .

that is Tom playing the Elegy by G.Bottesini,
interesting point to note ,in the video Tom is left handed in his use of tools , yet he plays right handed . a versatile man .
.... i have very mixed feelings about the double bass being played lefty , .... do these people play in orchestras ? ....i can't ever recall seeing it .

Quite a number of years ago on the 2xbasslist there was a discussion on classical players and the, shall we say, challenge of playing jazz. I made a kind of rude wisecrack, saying it's the rhythm where things so often go wrong, that their swing sounds like "my Nana with 10 cups of tea in her." Mr. Martin must have dug it, 'cause he wrote back "I agree."
