Tom's 6 String...

...Guitar. I know, I know. It's not a bass. But it's a build nonetheless. Tom is an amazing friend of mine and he's getting married in October. He leads worship at my church and he's been gassing for an acoustic electric for a while (NOT an electric acoustic). It's basically a hollow body electric guitar with a piezo. It sounds just like an acoustic guitar. Should be a relatively simple build. I've done one before but the body ended up warping on me because the area where the body was flooded. Here are some specs...

2 piece Swamp Ash body with chambers
heart and sap flame maple top
1 piece mahogany neck
Indian rosewood fingerboard
Matching flame maple headstock veneer
indian rosewood bridge
LR baggs element piezo
Rosewood/maple volume nob
Chrome schaller tunning heads

Here's a quick photoshop render of what she'll look like. (A VERY quick render):

Here's the progress:

Rough cut of the body shape in mdf (I use this to clamp the body)

And here's what's getting chambered out:

Oh... I almost forgot... This is a surprise for him so don't tell him...shhhhh... :hiding:;)

Thanks everyone... Yeah he is a great friend of mine and he's marrying an amazing woman... now we have to share him with her :smug:

He is also one UNBELIEVABLE guitar player. I'll be sure to post sound clips when I'm finished with the build but I'll be sure to post even better quality ones when he comes back from his honeymoon with him playing. I plan on giving it to him on his wedding day.

And conveniently enough, he just told me earlier today that he was selling his T5 this week... how about that... hehehe :D

ok... a little, actually a good amount more work done on this one...

I thickness planned the top wood and she's now awaiting the body to be glued to:

I also made a good amount of progress on the neck
I got the whole thing cut out from the scrap and I got the flame veneer on the head stock:

You can also see that I wanted to try something a bit different on this guitar so I also put a layer of maple and walnut veneer between the flame maple headstock and the rosewood fretboard:

You can see that I also bend the veneer to contour with the concave of the headstock:

I also started to carve out the back of the neck to my comfort level, but it is going to have to be his...

He plays a tele that I build him a while back and he absolutely LOVES the feel of that neck so i'll model it after that...

Stay tunned:D

finished the rough shaping of the neck. Just a little more sanding in it and she will be finished:

Also drew on the headstock so we can all (including myself) better visualize the final product. I won't cut this until I get the tuners though just to make sure my measurements are right:

Some more work done... Got the body chambered up (although I completely forgot to take pics...sorry)

I also got the maple top glued up, cut out, and the whole body sanded to the correct shape:

The neck is also mostly done. The headstock is cut out and I'm working on the finalizations for it....
