Tone knob buzzing

I have an Epiphone Thunderbird. If I turn the tone know all the way up, there is a bad buzz coming through the amp. If I turn it all the way down, it is dead silent. How can I fix this? Thank you.

Might check the wiring and make sure that the tone pot has the ground wire soldered to the case. in other words... the negative from the jack should be connected to the metal case on all the pots.. it may not be connected.

I don't think that it's a problem with the tone pot itself. Most likely, the buzz is coming from your pick-ups. Turning down the tone knob makes the buzz disappear because it removes the higher "buzz frequency" from the spectrum.

When playing a Jazz Bass and getting single-coil hum/buzz, adjusting the tone control is a possible fix.

Last night I removed the back cover. There is a grey wire that leaves the tone pot, and connects to the jack where the cord is. If you touch that connection at the jack, the buzzing gets LOUD. I think I isolated where it is coming from, but I don't know how to stop it.
