Tone Wizards Needed (Metal Content)

Ladies and Gentleman,



At 1:55, how is he getting that awesome tone? (see first comment on video to click right to it.) I listen to this album all the time, and I can't seem to achieve this amazingly lowend growling bass sound.

What are your theories?

I think he's just using a pick or fingernail, with aggressive attack and that overdriven tube gain sound with a growl in the mids.
Thats how I would attempt it.
