The conversation about tone wood. Yes again. In a recent thread here, there was a discussion about Dano construction

So which composite in a Dano has the best tone, Formica or Masonite?

It is a proven fact that the South American Masonite (now endangered) has the finest tone.

You can strike a plastic tuning fork and hold it to the different species and feel the difference in your nether regions.

And whatever it is that makes Dano's sound like Dano's - Reverends have moar. At least the old USA made ones did, I haven't tried the newer imports yet myself, but I hear they have that same "Dano on Steroids" sound...

It’s all in the little sliver of rosewood that makes the bridge saddle. Pick the wrong piece of rosewood and you’re done!

On a serious note, it may be chip resistant, but if you use it for a pickguard, don't mount the jack in it.

Yeah I’m actually kinda rough on those. Unfortunately or not, my playing space is the garage. So things have to get shuffled to do car work or luthiery

This was because of a manufacturing defect that made Masonite siding manufactured in the 80s and 90s to be especially prone to rot and deterioration. The jury ruled against Masonite resulting in a settlement of more than $1 billion. In 2001, the Masonite Corporation stopped selling siding altogether.Nov 15, 2023

Looks like we are still in luck with Formica a material famous for it's musical qualities. Just ask our kitchen counter tops. Great for preparing meals, washing dishes and musical notes.

The current siding is Hardie. But I have seen it crumble.
In my previous house the Formica quit talking to me after I replaced all my countertops 2 times,

Yeah, tell me about it! Just got through completely replacing the siding on my house. Let's see..... 1994 to 2023 - I think 29 years just may be a record for this siding! Of course, I live in Northern CA, where we have single digit humidity a lot of the year. Any suggestions on a good skin moisturizer?
