Toneport ableton live help

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I have a problem recording stuff with my toneport ux1. For some reason when I try to record electric guitar with ableton live (not bass) it sounds horribly boomy and muffled like its playing through a blown speaker. It works relatively ok when your just mucking around with gearbox but when you open ableton and record it changes and sounds terrible. I'm aware the guitar has a loud heavy sound as it's designed for metal. but it doesn't sound that bad through an amp.

Extra info

Guitar:
Peavey rotor ex with floyd rose (also has standard high output humbuckers)

PC (laptop)
Windows Vista home premium
2GB DDR2 Ram
Intel centrino Duo 1.66ghz (3.3)
Realtek HD sound card

thanks for any help

Callum
