Tony Franklin jazz pickup - does it hum?

Yeah, I was a little surprised by the neck tint. The other bass I was considering is the American Vintage '57 Reissue, I looked at a couple of those and the neck is tinted to look like an aged instrument.

This TFP looks exactly the same to me. It doesn't show up well in pics, but it's very noticeable when you hold the bass.

I will post some pics when I get a little time.

I'm a guitar player who occasionally plays bass, mostly for recording. Bought a slightly used fretted model and really like it. The original owner replaced the pick guard and installed concentric volume and tone controls, like those on early Jazz basses (the original pick guard and vol/tone pots came with it too). I like this setup, it lets you mix the p/u's as desired, plus I like the way it looks. I love having the best of a P and a J in one bass.

Old thread but applicable to me since I just a TF fretless and it came with a Dimarzio in the bridge instead of the TF "special" design bridge PU. The website still says its the custom design but if you look at the TF's on Sweetwater they have the Dimarzio as well. Did they change? I know the dimarzio was the in the original. Anyone compare the two?

The TFB fretted or frettless is without a doubt my favorite bass in the current Fender lineup. I am far from a Fender fan but if I had some extra cash laying around I would snag one in a second. I think part of the trick to it's sound is the way the pickups are wired with the three way switch. It lets each pickup retain it's individual character better than a VVT setup would. Good luck with your new #1.

I just got mine a few weeks ago and it’s a DiMarzio. Sounds good though. I haven’t played around with the adjustable pole pieces yet. Actually, I think I’ve solo’d the P most of the time.

I just did a "chat" on the Fender site and they said that its driven by Tony since its a sig model so he must have changed it at some point. I guess it makes sense since that's what his original had in it, plus its quiet compared to the single-coil hum I have heard of. He said the SC pickup is only available for warranty work. No biggie. I agree, it sounds good tho after adjusting the pole pieces a tweak for balance. Not sure why Fender has not updated their site or what Tony has listed on his website :eyebrow:
