Why is it that when someone posts an active bass that there frequently tends to be an individual or individuals who find it necessary to post a statement like, “too many knobs for me.”? I don’t believe that I’ve ever seen anyone make a statement after a person posts a P bass saying, “Not enough knobs for me.”.

Too Many Knobs vs. Not Enough Knobs

I'm ok with a 2 knob P bass, but I sure do love those 5 knob, concentrics and push-pulls, with switches too!!
I'm not an active player. I'd be happy all day long with a volume knob only....
Because options and choice scares people, and leaving everything flat is the answer for everything.
On the threads like these, there are always too many knobs for me, even just on the first page.
Definitely saw some of those comments on the Joe Dart bass.
It’s almost like…we all have individual preferences?
Because those folks haven’t learned to see something that’s not along their lines or preferences and simply move along without expressing their disapproval.

Because some people think their opinion is so important that they have to mention it when coming across other opinions. It's got nothing to do with bass. They will criticize anything that is different from what they think is normal. Because difference threatens their own status quo.
I’m not knocking anyone’s preference. I’m just curious as to why some of those who seem to prefer less controls find it necessary to frequently state, “Too many knobs for me.”.? Personally, I never really have anything to say about the number of knobs that another person’s bass has.

Absolutely no offense meant, by the way...just pointing out the irony of your post.
On topic, I feel part of that response (and I'll admit I'm guilty of it, being a simple soul) comes from a belief that the talent is in the fingers, not the bass.
I personally have briefly owned a couple of basses more complicated than the humble Precision, and have found I spent more time messing around trying to find a 'perfect' tone than actually playing.

Too many knobs?!! How about too many unnecessary threads! 
If you truly felt that way and also felt that it was negatively impacting your playing in some way, I respect the decision that you made for YOU. What take offense with is the apparent need to express that simply because someone else feels that a bass with more knobs works for them. It sort of comes off as a slight.
Because a lot fewer people have problems with fewer knobs than too many, evidently.
My apologies, OP; I'll make sure to speak up, next time I see a bass guitar with only one knob (or zero). 
If I got a Dart--unlikely; too many other basses I want but don't have--or any single knob bass, I'd probably have to glue at least one dummy knob on there, just to pacify my aesthetic preferences.
