I just checked out carvin's site and they're prices are insanely low!
So now I'm at:
1. Peacey Cirrus
2. Carvin
If you like your squire p-bass, why not step up in the same category? I saw a used 5 string usa p-bass in the classifieds for under $900 today. (Great deal, imo)
Otherwise, +1 to the Valenti suggestion, he makes some beautiful basses.
A buddy of mine has a Conklin 6 and absolutely loves it. I played it too but I suck so bad at playing anything but 4s so my input would be dumb. He friggin loves it though... Something to think about, at least.
Go with a Groove Tools (Conklin non-U.S. made) 7-string. Great bass, Bartolini electronics, and you've got one more string to play with. You can usually find one in good condition, used or possibly new in your price range.

Pardon my comment on warwicks here.
I have nothing bad to say about the tone or anything like that, I know there are a ton of people that love them. But for most of the models the top horn, well, I find it a bit... disturbing. I'm not trying to hate on them, as not to incur the wrath of the warwick community.![]()
