So what are your top 5 favorite basses? You use pictures or whatever and yo can explain if you want but its not necessary. Remember these are only OPINIONS

In no particular order. As you can probably tell, I'm not exactly a "boutique" guy, nor am I a fan of Fenders and their countless clones. It's all about the affordable performance, to me, and if I could have 5 basses, it would be these.

I agree with you about Fender, I like the Jazz neck and the tone but the looks don't do it for me...

Haha, yeah I have no problem with other people playing Fenders, they sound pretty good most of the time, but to me, they feel a bit like a toy... just a bit insubstantial I guess. But hey, different strokes I guess.

I've been blessed to own what I consider as my top basses and the list goes

1) Dingwall: Ergonomics, playability and tone beyond belief, to last me a lifetime (so happy that I've tried most variations available with great success)

2) Ritter: Unique great-sounding pieces of art. The tone is clearly a league of it's own

3) Fodera: This tone needs no introduction. Sits great in most cases and places

4) Status Graphite: Clear articulate tone that sustains for days

5) MTD: Mr Tobias needs no introduction here. He is able to provide basses that have stout tone with substance and presence that fills the room without sounding muddy, harsh or thin. Playability is top notch as well

2. MusicMan HH Bongo 6
3. Warwick Corvette $$ 4 string in that lovely black
4. MusicMan Stingray H 4 string
5. One of the many custom basses I've drooled over on this forum, so many possibilities on this one. It's a shame that I don't think I'll ever have the income to justify buying thousands of £ worth of bass. Still I am only 16, I can dream :

So a MIA standard jazz bass for 2000$ (Swedish price) that will last for the rest of your life ain't a cheap price?

For the durability and sound quality its basically funking Fender up the pickup holes for each jazz bass you buy.

I can't fault you that, and I certainly do appreciate the fact that Fender basically invented the instrument.

I don't exactly get what you're asking, but... I wasn't saying that Fenders aren't affordable (although 2g's is pushing it ), just that their "boutique" clones aren't. I wasn't knocking them either. All I was getting at is that they're not the be-all end-all for me as they are for many people.

Lakland 55-01 (modded with Nordstrand Big Singles and a Bart NTMB 18v preamp, I miss that bass)

Sadowsky M5 24 with a quilted maple top and birdseye neck/fretboard

Skjold Lions Pride P 5 string with the mahogany body (Tom Bowlus' bass)

Valenti J5 with EMG 40J pups and ash body, birdseye neck/fretboard (on a FedEx truck as I type this)

Acacia 5 string with redwood top and wenge neck/rosewood fretboard and Bartolini pickups (played at the Cincy GTG)

Well if we are gonna talk about classics than hell yea Fenders are amazing. I just don't care for the Post-1965'ers ( CBS Ones) as much.
