I thought of another one I HATE!
Wearing sandals to a gig.
Its pretty much advertising beforehand you will have no stage presence at all, or are some kind of transient that just wandered in off the street and picked up someone's instrument.

And wait until something like, say a Leslie cabinet you're helping with lands on your foot. There's good reasons for bands to wear big boots on stage.

OR bands that get off the stage, but leave their gear set up while they go and try to look cool and talk to people.
Get your crap out of my bloody way!
Also, bands that always say things like "hey we suck" or "this song isnt very good but we're going to play it anyway" Sometimes it can be funny if delivered right. but most of the time it just comes off as lame.

I am a huge supporter of local bands. I am friends with a couple of local bands-and I used to be very supportive of one of them, but got tired of one of them bragging all the time and thinking they were better than all period. It was one particular member mainly.
I can't stand coincided people in general, but all should be supporting one another!

Usually, around here, it's a secret muso code phrase for "we haven't got a gig tonight but don't want anyone to know we're not totally in demand every night of the week".
It's particularly prevalent in the corporate band scene.
+1 to the shorts thing (yeah, even if you play metal... don't be a pu**y!), but even worse are the disgusting, worn out, white-three-years-ago sneakers. I mean, it's bad enough if you're on the floor in a dive bar, but up on a stage? I have to be face-to-face with your high school gym shoes? Really? When this is a paid gig and your rig costs $2K you have that little pride? Jeez...

I don't expect everyone to have on $300 Cole-Haans, but a halfway decent pair of CLEAN sneakers from this decade would be a HUGE improvement for MOST bands...

I'm definitely taking a beating over this one.
I suppose it does have some legitimate business purposes to make such a posting.
I still contend that there are some cases where it's done specifically for calendar inflation and delusional ego feeding. If you knew the bands you'd know what I mean.
I hate bands who play for only a couple of hundred dollars, or worse, free. This conditions venue owners, who then think they shouldn't have to pay real wages. Meanwhile they make a motza. The entertainment is paid for after the first fifty drinks are sold. Who wins there, except the venue owner???
Me too. You would be dumb not to put any date on your schedule unless you are just not in demand all that much. Most of the clubowners I used to deal with would check our web site to see if we were open before calling us to book a date. And like ^^^he^^^ said, that's where the real money is anyway.
Bands that are providing the Drum-kit and Backline turning up and hour+ after load in

and lastly
Bands that of their own fault start their set late and continue to play a full set regardless.
and even worse when all of these are combined.
Sometimes these can't be avoided, but more often than not they can be.

i'm not sure when the dress code thing crept back in to music again but it certainly does not influence who i'll go and see....if thats your thing cool but i've seen shows in venues where people wear everything from tuxes to torn tee shirts and i don't recall ever caring.......Bands/band members that are on stage but look like they ...

i recently saw julie slick here and she is reputed to play in bare feet......if you would have asked me at the show i would not have known or cared if she even had feet......
far too much emphasis is placed on this stuff and iirc the reason a lot of us older guys got into it in the first place is because it defied the conventions of an era that told us what to wear,how long ones hair should be,and the notion that even the music itself was somehow evil because it strayed outside of the box.......
i just saw charlie haden and pat metheny on elvis costello the other night and haden had a stand....there are plenty of good reasons for having one on stage,as well as bad ones......

Nothing to do with a "dress code" and/or the music,
if that is the stage persona a band or artist wants to
project ... more power to them, moreover if the target
audience accepts and embraces a certain look/style
again great. The OP ask what irritates each of us, looking
like a "performer" that could care less ... makes me care less.
