Top-notch Carl Thompson on eBay

For that kind of money I'd have a couple basses made I think.:)

Exactly. I am a huge fan of Carl Thompson and his instruments, but I'd rather order 3 CT basses than pay 15K for one bass. When this bass was sold on eBay in 2002, the buyer clicked the BIN price which was 10K. When I ordered my 4 string CT in 2003, it was less than half of this, and (IMHO) it is no less special.

We'll see if it sells, but a BIN of 15K seems a little steep for this instrument. Good luck to the seller.

if a buyer clicked the BIN first go around, then we'll never know what it actually could have gone for. I actually don't fault whoever is listing it, nor does it seem like a scam. It DOES seem like a poorly advertised listing though. My pics are huge and drool inducing which for 15K they should be!

But at the same time, I agree that most know what this bass is. The dumbest thing I think is that it comes with a gig bag.

But you get FREE SHIPPING!!

I like how it's just standard shipping. Sure, you pay $20,000 for the bass, but expedited shipping's gonna cost extra.

I think $10-15k is fair. I mean, this thing is probably at the same level of desirability (for those into CT's) as Claypool's Rainbow or Main 4-string. You could rattle off a long list of famous bass players, but this is in the much shorter list of notable basses.

And again, I want to point out that as beautiful an instrument as this is, there's an equal degree of craftsmanship and quality in it too. CT basses aren't just for looks or bragging rights, unlike that $200k gold bass that has the jewel-encrusted knobs and what-not.

I'd rather have 10-15 basses than spend that much on one bass.

funny...i feel the exact opposite. but then again, i can only play one at a time ;).

as for this bass...it is a bit pricey, but then again so are a lot of less sensational instruments that sell for way more...all of the time (certain new fodera and alembics come to mind). it is a crazy amount of money, but if you want to talk about dream bass...this bass is a piece of bass history and is up there probably in the top 10 most famous or known basses list. i wouldn't be surprised if it gets it's price (someone's gotta have that lotto ticket).

What is so sensational about it.:)
