Hardly anyone knows Clapton plays a Strat. Forget bass, no one knows or cares. I would have said Jaco/Fender, but....

I disagree with all of them. I don't think the general public knows, or cares, what type of bass someone is playing. They wouldn't know a Fender Jazz from a Mustang (car) fender. They may know McCartney and his music, but they don't know he played a Hofner or a Ric. That kind of stuff is important to us bass players, not the general music enthusiast.

BTW, who is Phil Volk and why would anyone recognize his bass?
Better known as Fang, he was the bass player for Paul Revere and the Raiders. Aside from the Vox Phantom, he was also known for playing an Epiphone Embassy.
His bass would probably only be known by the geezer crowd.
