Thanks Nick! I kinda find it funny, the looks I was getting as I brought the head and cab in and some remarks I heard about it being too heavy etc...

I'm a student at U of T and I'm exploring how bass players seek information. My research involves two things: 1) A short interview, and 2) A simple sketch mapping out your bass-related information resources.
Participation is anonymous and you can opt-out at any time.
Plus, each participant will be compensated with a free set of bass strings! You choose the brand, type and gauge, and I'll bring it to the interview

Yep, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that TB is the main source of information for most bass players.
But, perhaps there are some sections of TB that each of you gravitate towards more than others. And perhaps there are also non-TB sources that you consult, such as manufacturer or retail sites, product reviews (on magazine websites, blogs, or video streaming sites), online instructional videos, breakdowns of famous artists' rigs (ex. Premier Guitar's "Rig Rundown" or sites like Guitargeek.com), listservs that send you e-mails about bass-related stuff, sites providing sheet music or tabs, social events such as GTGs or NAMM, books, magazines, peers, technicians, luthiers, salespeople, store owners (if there is a bass specialty store near you), etc.
These are just ideas. There are no right or wrong answers, and each person is going to have a unique combination of information sources.
If any of you are interested, feel free to send me a private message. There is no need for the interview to be long, and your sketch can be as simple or detailed as you like.

Damn, can't believe I missed this thing, and by so small a window of time!
I'm subbing this thread so that I am there for the next one. Although, getting to Vaughan without a car might have been a slight pain! Not that my opinion counts for much, I'm sure, but I'd be all over it if we could arrange one of these in the city proper.

The facility in Vaughan was actually just NW of Dufferin and 407 so might not be such a bad commute. Likewise many of the guys who do drive in don't mind picking up other TBer's on the way.
Vaughan was by far the nicest room we've had for any of the GTG's I've been to.
Yeah... I'd love to drive in from London, but I've been gigging each time. Likewise for the Club Bass open house on Sunday. (I have two theatre shows, matinee and evening...)

Sorry I missed your gig, Joe. We were in Hamilton; there was some obscure little metal band playing at the Coliseum. Dark Sunday? Something Sabbath? Anyway, their bass player, "Geezer," was pretty good, and he had some nice Laklands with him. Next time, perhaps?

Man, I'm totally in for one of these... but getting to Vaughan with gear and no car will be hard! Are there any decent places located in T.O. proper to run the event?
Excellent venue. Best that I've been to. A bit out of the way for some but we did have a great turnout with lots of interesting gear. Steve, I would love another chance to check out that awesome Dingwall fanned fret bass again.
