Total Lunar Eclipse Tonight.

It's started. I went outside to take a peek but it's zero ******* degrees out and I came back in after two minutes. I'll go out and check on it every 15 minutes or so.

The air is really clear tonight so I'm guessing the color at totality will be a lot less red than usual.

Of course it would be cloudy here for the only eclipse of the next few years. Stupid Mobile weather. At least it's 67 degrees at 8PM, though. :D
I'm at the opposite end of the state -- you're not the only one plagued by this stupid Southern weather. I moved from California for THIS?! Maybe the government can use their satellite to punch a hole through the clouds.

I took about 50 shots and this is the best one. If I take a long exposure the movement of the earth and moon creates a short streak  This was about a 5 second exposure at about f16. If it looks any different, I'll take more pics. So far it's not very exciting :o No satelites being shot down so far.

Do you have any bigger versions of that? I would love to use it as my background, but it wouldn't look good if I stretched it that much.

HA! That's actual size, just cropped to 800 pixels wide. I thought I would have more to work with. Shoot me your Email address and I'll send you a full size if you want to play around with it in photochop. I'll take a hi res shot also but I doubt I'll be able to send it. The file size will be HUGE.

Our cloud cover is pretty thin now, so you can see it fairly well. Not as clear as FL's picture, but you can tell what's going on. Are y'all getting any of that turquoise ring that the NASA link talked about? Just enough cloud cover to block anything like that here.
