A folky instrumental piece:

Solo bass, single track, 3rd take, instrumental, played on my 28.6" scale 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro Bass, tuned in G# standard tuning (as in one half step bellow the upper 4 strings of a 6 string bass in regular B standard tuning, plus a high E), recorded through my "amp-less" setup directly into my Zoom H4n handheld recorder, and only edited through a simple Wav editor.

Here's an instrumental track inspired by my recent viewings of "blaxploitation" movies. Please forgive the stiffness of the drums, cymbals and congas - I'm no good at playing that stuff by hand on a drum machine, so I program it. Also, in the interest of full disclosure, the "wacka wacka" wah rhythm guitar is a sample; I can't properly simulate that with my keyboard.

For fun, I decided to compose and record a sequel! I tend to keep my arrangements very simple, so this one was a bit challenging for my abilities. It's also more uptempo than the previous track. There are mistakes, but they're not so egregious that I felt compelled to do a bunch of punch-ins to make the mix perfect. As long as the general flow is good, I just let things be. Also, this is my first time posting from SoundClick instead of SoundCloud (I had a ridiculous copyright claim filed against me there; the songs weren't even close to being alike), so I hope there's no problem sharing my track here.

Live recording from Saturday, this is the first hour of a three hour session. Two modular synth players and me on bass. Definitely not for the masses, but some might find it interesting. For anyone that's curious, I'm playing my new Hartwood Satellite bass, the effects are a Peavey Decade pedal and a Mid-Fi For Parts and Repair, and a little Avalanche Run here and there (through a Berg Forte HP, direct out to the recorder and some room mics). I'm also using an MXR looper here and there.

The Hartwood is GREAT, I really like it.

Here is an improvised 1st take on the same concept, played on my 28.6" scale 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro Bass, tuned in F# standard tuning (as in 2 half steps above the upper 5 strings of a 6 string bass in regular B standard tuning), with the stock bridge J pickup wired directly to the output jack socket (no slide utilized in this version):

While learning and playing around with Cakewalk, I made this. A simple rock track. I played the bass, guitar, and keyboard, and the drums were played using the MT Power Drum Kit 2 app.

I recorded and mixed it in Cakewalk Sonar, played on a 5-string Arrow bass, Harley Benton Telecaster, Akai lpk 25 mk2, and the drums are MT Power Drum Kit 2 software.

I’ve been using guitar rig for probably 20 years. About 15 years ago I splurged and spent $500 on Komplete. It gave me a decent enough set of synths and upgraded me to Guitar Rig 5. I think last year I splurged again and spent $200 on a Kontakt upgrade. I got a whole ton of new and impressive synths and it included Guitar Rig 7.

In many ways both GRigs are similar but the new version has some neat presets and sometime last year I spent a couple of days going through them, seeing if they inspired anything, recorded quick ideas and moved on. The song I posted here started as one of those snippets - and funny enough I saved it in a wrong folder, randomly found it a couple of weeks ago and just ran with it.
