Totally Fee Free Checking Accounts?

Anyone know of any? I am getting absolutely hammered with fees. One of which is a $10 monthly fee unless your balance falls to no less than $1500.00.

Do totally free checking exist at all anymore? I know I can count on my trusty TB OT mates for some sound advice :)

My Chase checking account is free so long as I have more than $500 in direct deposits a month.

At first they charged $10 a month if you didnt have a direct deposit over $500. I called to make a complaint, stating I had multiple direct deposits a month that were $497. They said they couldnt do anything, I told them Id consider switching banks. The next month rolled around... no $10 fee. They changed the rule to what I listed above.

I'm with Chase too. I'm working part time teaching chess and I am in school right now, so I don't have any direct deposits. My balance dropped below $1500 for only a few days and I was charged the fee.

My daughter has a free checking plus interest account at a bank here (west central Pennsylvania). They recently sent me an ad that they would give me money to start a checking account. Banks around here are looking for business.
