Trace Elliot 1x18 cab stopped working

My Trace Elliott 1x18 cab stopped working during a gig last weekend. No sound comes from it at all. Disassembly found no broken/shorted/loose wires. It has a Celestian 18" speaker. Has anyone else experienced this or know what the problem could be?

May as well get the usual out of the way...

  1. Have you tried a different speaker cable?
  2. Different output on amp/input jack on cab (if available)?
  3. Different amp?
If all of the above and still the same issue then it’s definitely the speaker. Are the wires soldered on? Can you get to the inside of the input jacks, could be a dodgy connection there instead of on the speaker.

you either toasted it or have a wiring/ jack/ speaker cable issue

rare and hard to see if you pushed it hard the small tinsel wires from the voicecoil to the speaker jacks/terminals on the driver itself may have been pulled out or came loose

hmm I got a 1518 trace cab that sounds like its about to die...buzzing noises on certain freqs..15" celestian original trace speaker...bummed about it because I was just about to buy a 2-10 cab to go on top of it..but now I gotta decide to buy a new 15"speaker, and then get the 2-10 later on..I just had to buy a new cable for the bass to the amp, the next week I had to buy a new xlr for the DI to the snake, bought new strings the week before the new amp cable...seems like everything is needing a freshen up at the same time...just when I thought I was going to get ahead and get something new..but..our sound tech told me at practice he had a dbx compressor he would give me when I told him I was thinking about getting a compressor..so there is that..not sure I need one or will use it..but yeah I'm waiting for my amp head to die now..lol..

feel your pain... I had my 2x10 die, then my tubes (along with several botched amp services), then snapped a string.

Eminence 3015 goes good.

Before spending up you should check the port tube flashings haven't got loose.

I had this on a Trace 15" combo, twice, both times things vibrating.

First time it was the grille vibrating, I added another couple of screws, penny washers, and spacers (short lengths of fuel pipe). Second time it was a broken spring in one of the handles which was vibrating at certain frequencies (can't remember how I cured that and it's long gone).

Those old Celestions are quite tough, I hammered mine mercilessly for years and it only failed when the amp developed a fault that put DC through it and toasted it.
