Trace V6 fan issue??

hey TB crew, got a question for all members with V-type experience....

the fan in my V6 is extremely quiet but the amp works fine. The original knobs have been replaced with metal ones, and after playing for about 10-15 minutes, the knobs will get so hot that they'll actually burn my hand if I touch them. So, I've been taking off that wooden front cover when I gig to keep it cool but I love the look of it on there. Is my amp supposed to run that hot? Is it possible that the owner before me had the speed of the fan lowered?

I had a V6 for a little while. I put a V8 grill on it because it looked so cool and I tought the tubes would get more air that way, but I never played it long enough to see if got as hot as you mention.

it shouldn't get that hot, take it to a tech to make sure the valves havn't been biased insanely high and also touch the transformer when its on to make sure thats not getting hot, if it is that could lead to problems in the future!

good call....BAS is pretty good (when they decide to answer the phone/email you back)

I have a custom grill that I was planning on replacing the original wood cover with, so it would get better airflow and stay cool, but I really love the look of the green carpet on the wood cover. I realize that 6 KT88s definitely put out some heat, but isn't it bad for the tubes to have all that heat trapped in there? I can't imagine Trace Elliot would have made them with the wooden covers if it was bad for the amp....right? I just want to know that I can leave the original wood cover on there and it will be ok haha....thanks for the replies guys
