I'll probably get a Traynor Dynabass 200T or some sort of Carvin.
I am so glad for the feedback! Psychologically, I think I have finally made this bass mine. I've been spending time learning basslines of some of my favorites that I often play on my wider necked basses. I am especially working out classic Marcus Miller slap riffs so that I can really develop some muscle memory for this bass.
Late to the party, but as long as I'm here...
1) Nice looking Valenti. What are those specs you mentioned?
2) I think checking with the friend is a good idea. IF the other bass had been a better fit, it doesn't sound like he'd have minded, but there are different kinds of gifts with different feelings attached. I don't guess you'd have been obligated -- and I wouldn't want someone to be stuck with something I gave them that wasn't working for them -- but if I gave them I bass I was deeply attached to thinking they'd love it and use it, I might rather have it back (and perhaps give them something else) than see it go to some random stranger.
