Trading used Thunderbird with new P-bass

Would this be a stupid move?

I played a p-bass this morning and it really was THE SHITE! So crispy tone, such a good feel and.. such a great instrument!

I don't have the money for it at the moment, but they're up for a trade against my used Gibson Thunderbird. I don't really play the TB because it feels uncomfortable to play and dosn't fit my current bands music.

So.. should I go for the trade or keep the gibby and move on?

as a self-described lover of all that is THE P-BASS I would say it depends. The p-bass is indeed the shite, but at least here in the States a used American p-bass is usually around the 600-700 USD mark and a used gibson thunderbird is usually a good deal higher than that. (most go for over 1000.) This depends on the condition of each instrument and I am basing this on the fact that the Pbass is not vintage or a special model, like the USA Pbass deluxe, etc).
Now that being said if the pbass is not a Fender, say it was a Celinder or Lakland or Sadowsky, etc then the prices could be a little closer or even more in your favor. (Just an aside, the all time best pbass I have ever played was a celinder. and I have played alot of them. In fact I still have the celinder and I don't think I will ever sell it.

Off the top of my head, the T-bird is worth more than a P-bass - unless it's trashed!!! All things being equal I'm not surprised they're up for a trade!!!!

I'd suspect you'd be better witha trade, plus some cahs to make up for the deficit value of the P-bass against your T-bird!!!

Damn ,I'd love a T-bird as well - just don't have the cash (or a P-bass I'd trade) right now!!!:bassist:

It's a US Fender P-Bass.

I don't really count that much on money to be honest. I just need a bass that fits me and fits the music I am playing. I tell you, I could barely leave it at the shop again after trying it out for a while.

Compared to my thunderbird, the feel and tone is just too nice.

Edit: Also, keep in mind that the p-bass is new and my TB is used...

At the end of the day ,as long as you're happy with the deal - that's all that matters!!!

I'd see if you can sell that Tbird first-there are MANY sold on Ebay for a very good price...you might come out a couple hundred bucks ahead for an effect pedal or two to boot!

For me, I can't stand a P-bass, and love my Tbird, but if the Bird's being neglected, then give it a good home and get the P-bass you love.

Too late to all of you who have deprecated me from trading it.

I've just got home from rehearsal with the band, and this bass is without a doubt the bass I've been looking for, for so long time without even knowing it.

It's got a lot more output than the thunderbird had, cuts throug the mix SO nice! Every note I play I can hearly clearly. It's just so amazing that I don't care about the thunderbird at all ;)

I'm just.. happy!

Good for you! I think you did the right thing for your situation. You seemed 100% sure that you wanted the p bass, and 100% sure that you did not want the t-bird. You might have made a little money be selling the T-bird, but how long would it have taken? Would the other bass have still been around by then?
