Double Bass "transferring" a neck profile

Any thoughts on how I might be able to create a 2-dimensional cross-section of an existing neck?

In other words, how would I transfer to paper the various profiles of the neck at given locations along the length.

I thought about just sawing it off and tracing it with pencil, but that seems a little counter-productive.

Or use a piece of cardboard and cut it to fit by trial and error. Do it at several points along the neck.

Contour gauge. Mine's a Craftsman, metal. Better than the plastic ones. Google it for more info.

Edit: Must have been posting at the same time as Ken. The one I have is real old, it's an array of wires held in place by a flat spring clamp arrangement, hard to describe. Gives a little finer detail than the ones with the plastic tines.
