I ponder on having a trem bridge (whammy bar) installed in my 28,6" 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro bass.
I tune it up to F# to D, which is to say 2 half steps above standard E tuning, or like the 5 lowest strings of an 8 string guitar, and I use my bass a bit more like you would a Bass VI type instrument or a baritone guitar than how you traditionally would use a bass.
I wonder though if there are any simple solution for a bass trem, that would requite a minimum of routing and modding, like for instance the Dusenberg Les Trem II for guitar, but for a 5 string bass instead.
Something like this, meant to be installed with a fixed 2 piece bridge like that on a Gibson Les Paul or SG guitar, in place of the back bridge piece holding the strings:
Or would there be no other way around it but to route out for the bass trem bridge's spring under the bridge?
In any case, what would be the simplest solution, what are my options, and what would people recommend?
Or is 5 string tremolo bridges for bass even a thing, would have to be with 16,5 mm string spacing too?
