Tribute Bands

The guys who play with Paul McCartney do songs they didn't have any part in writing or arranging note-for-note like the recording. Except for having McCartney in the band they are not doing anything different than tribute musicians other than not having to look like one of The Beatles. I'm sure any musician from the best Beatles tribute bands could take their places.

Doing a top-notch Beatles tribute while not extremely demanding musically does require extraordinary vocal talent. There is also an initial investment which could likely be in the tens of thousands of dollars in getting the correct period guitars, amps, and drums as well as stage clothing. Few musicians have the required talent to pull this off let alone the ability to pull off the right look.

We've gone the Beatles route, but are by no means impersonators. We just enjoy what we do and add our own twist, and others seem to enjoy it as well. However, we do have the vocals pretty well nailed:

So every time a group of classical musicians play the Brandenburg concertos, they're doing it with a unique style? Can you point me to a Philharmonic performance where they make stylistic choices in a classical standard?

actually, orchestra styles have changed radically over the last 100+ years. same music played straight to romantic timing/ combo of both styles for a little example. the weird versions of the 90's meant to TEACH the audience had people voting with their wallets and many like Toronto Ontario symphony went bankrupt several times

Yeah you're right. I shouldn't have worded it like that. My original post was out of frustration because i see all these really good original artists that i think should make it big, and they're not making it anywhere. And then i see tribute bands like the Fab Four making a ton of money doing the same thing the Beatles did in the 60s. I personally don't like tribute bands. That's fine. Other people might really like them. That's completely fine too. We are all entitled to our own opinion and have the right to express that. I never intended to offend anyone. My wording should've been different. I should have realized that my OP could have offended some and for that i sincerely apologize.

Well done Gavin. Your OP won’t be the last mistake you’ll ever make. You’ve taken a verbal beating but you’ve shown character in accepting that you could’ve handled it better and you put it in writing. I’m 69 years old and still making mistakes and learning from them. Mistakes are an opportunity to learn and grow.
I am not a song writer. I do write music but it rarely takes the form of a song and is more a sort of orchestral/jazz amalgam you could say. The world will never hear it ‘cos I don’t try to sell it. I just enjoy the creative process.
My wife on the other hand is an excellent songwriter and has been writing great songs since she was a teenager. She has the sensibilities of an artist but no ability whatsoever to sell herself as a product. She just loves to create songs and sing them to anyone who might enjoy them.
I made my living from playing music for many years but almost none of it was written by me. Some was co-written with my wife but the bulk of my career was spent playing other peoples music. The truth is, that’s how most professional musicians make their living.
I hope this experience hasn’t jaded you and that you’ll not abandon TB. There are many good people here with good values and much knowledge, experience and skill to contribute.

Not extremely demanding musically? Many of their tunes are deceptively simple until you dig into them. Same goes for McCartney’s bass parts. Lots going on there, especially on the later tunes. Nailing his phrasing and multiple ways he approached the parts he created are not as simple as they appear.
