I've realigned the bridge since this shot, but I still love the pic. A familiar neck, which is great, on a swamp ash body with forearm contour, a little crazy finish work with the transparent ebony and oil varnish. Jason Lollar pickup and Hipshot Lollipop tuners. Great bass.

SPB3 pups
CTS pots
Switchcraft Jack
Bone nut
Carbon fiber pickguard w/black screws
White pearl block inlays (Jockomo Inlays)
Smoothed out the sharp frets
BEAD tuning

got them from Jockomo. here's their ebay store link: items in Guitar Bass Fret Marker Inlay Sticker Decal Rod Cover Custom store on eBay!

they ship from japan and took about 3 weeks to get to me. i just installed them this past saturday and haven't put very much play time on them yet. from what i've read on here, they hold up pretty good. time will tell but for $7 it was a no-brainer to me to give them a try.

My 2nd tricked out VM Jazz , got this as a gift from my cousin, and I am sooo happy with it. He tours with Country artist J Collins, and he picked it up in his travels somewhere. Either way, it plays great and sounds incredible. I put a slightly better bridge on it and the cherry on the cake, a SADOWSKY onboard preamp with passive tone control. What a difference. This bass sounds fantastic with this upgrade. Otherwise stock. I have not seen many 3Tone burst with black block inlay VM Jazz's. Im really diggin it...check it out

Hey guys, I have a VM Jazz Bass.
I like the bass a lot, I like the feel and look, but the pickups are just weak, no punch at all.
They are not Duncan Designs. I know they are stock so they must be the Fender Ones, it is a newer model.
What pickups can I put in here?
Will a pre-amp fit?

Just for clarification, the stock tuners on the VM & Deluxe Squiers - are Hipshot HB7s a direct drop-in replacement?

Can i get a number 77 modified 5 string, all gold hardware, grover tuners , bartolini pre amp, brass nut ,string thru body, battery compartment ,active passive switch and tone switch, added second input jack on bottom.

Pretty much any Fender Jazz bass specific set will work. I use SD Quarter Pounders in my Fender jazz, but my VM fretless has Fender ’62 RI pickups and my VM 70s has DDs. As for preamps, I believe the Audere Pro Z series of preamps were designed with a no-modification install in mind. But before you go that route, I'd really recommend the Santellan Sounds Elek-Trix wiring harness. Especially now that you can get it with a Varitone installed in the tone position. But even without it, the tone capacitor is selectable via diswitches. If you like the passive sound of a jazz bass, I'd look into that for certain. They come in blend or Series/Parallel and are VERY easy to install. One note, however, you'll need to wallow out the holes in the stock Squier jack plate a bit to fit the Elek-Trix.

My video of the bass in before and after mode is below. Please note this Fretless is highly modified, and I purposely chose a very dark capacitor setting. Brighter options are most definitely available with the Elek-Trix if that's your cup of tea.

Here is my 60's Pbass with EMG Geezer Butler pups, mint pickguard and pup cover. Plays and sounds sweet. Looks pretty nice too!
