Got the shielding job done, although I might have messed up the pots, not sure... The bridge pickup sounds terrible, and the pot for it was hard to move after I finished soldering...

The bridge is awesome, setting intonation with this went smooth as glass...

I have to debug the problem with the bridge pickup, and then do the decal, then I am done, ready to post up my finished photos...

Where is a good place to find a replacement for a Squier VM p-bass? I have the maple p-bass with the black pickguard and I am looking to change it out for a tortishell. I have been on ebay but a lot of the ad's don't seem to be very specific

Looks like I'm going to have to do more with my 50's CV - I put straplocks on it and it has flats so I decided it was perfect for what I want. Looks like the bar is at LEAST a pickguard more!

OK. After about 5 years, I finally did what I would call major mods to my amber VM P. (not that it NEEDED any)
First I swapped out the neck for one from a Matt Freeman sig neck, which has a gloss finish, which I prefer, as well as a nice amber tint that more closely matches the finish on my VM P's body than the satin finished un-tinted stock neck:

Much better, looks more like it was an actual part of the bass from the start.
I also added a an EMG Geezer Butler pickup (Heard a lot of good things about it) and some Fender threaded saddles. I'm quite happy with the results. It looks, sounds and plays terrifically well, even better than before (again, not that there was anything badly wrong with it to start.)

So part of the neck (the maple back) is Squier, the alder portion of the body is Squier and the bridge & tuners.
Is this still a Squier??? Edit: The pickguard is as well from a Squier.

started out as a squier deluxe active jazz , enjoy!

made a ramp too

and custom clear pickguard

Squier bronco, custom made and very nicely done Pearl guard, 3 ply. A p pickup was put in place, I have no idea the maker but it sounds great and has cloth wiring. There was a little routing needed to open up the pickup cavity but it was done nicely and as little wood was removed as possible. A badass I bridge was also installed which greatly improves intonation abilities. I need to get some new knobs, I think 2 Jazz knobs like a mustang would look best, opinions? Into it for $101, great bass.

Here's mine:
A Squire PJ (that I bought used for 125), refinished and stained, EMG active PU and
harness set that I had hanging around, heavier bridge. Still wasn't quite right until
I replaced the neck (with an SX "second", cost me 19.95). The neck is what really
made the difference, the original neck was somehow defective and was a tone suck.

I own 8 basses, but for the last 3 years, this has been my main working bass.
Has a great feel, really nice sound to it.

if we speaking about bridges, i replaced the bridge in my tricked PJ to more hi mass bridge. and very happy with it.

if anybody wants good direct replacement hi mass bridge and badass is too expensive - check this:

The only mods I've done so far to my most recent Squier Bronco is installing a SD Hotrails Strat neck pickup, D'Addario nylon tapewound strings, and a Switchcraft jack. The pickup really made the bass sound much better to me. It's now very much like my favorite SCPBs but with more balls, less weight, easier playability, and absolutely no noise. It's moved into the #1 slot.

I was thinking of replacing the 2 saddle bridge with a 4 saddle bridge but I haven't had any intonation issues yet. I'm also thinking of reshaping the headstock to look like the SCPB headstock. And the neck is very white maple so I may use the old shoe polish trick to tint it.
