Tricked Out Squier Club

I'm almost done with my VM Jazz. black Hipshot tuners, black BAIII Bridge, Dimarzio model J DP123 pu's, Black Pearl guard, BP Knobs strung up with some Chrome's. Once I get her done I'll post some pics wit my CV 50's and 60's P.

My friend just dropped some Lace Alumitone pu's in his VM Fretless. He also slapped a BAII and some hipshot tuners on it. I cannot believe what this sounds like now. I can't quit staring at the damn thing !!!! I'll have to take some pics of it also.

Where did you get those knobs? One of my basses is wanting knobs such as those.

This was a relatively simply swap... we put a P-bass neck on a stock 50s Vibe - had to cut a new pickguard (to allow for the rounded heel of the P-bass neck) and dowel the old/drill new holes in the back of the neck (to line up with the holes in the body). No routing of the body was necessary - the base of the heel sat nicely in the pocket and the scale length was unchanged.

Having played standard P-basses forever, the "baseball bat" neck of the 50s Vibe felt strange, so the P-bass neck was a perfect solution... I love the sustain of this bass - don't know if that is due to the heft of the bridge, but I don't care because it sounds great... I had considered changing the pickup, but the tech checked with a buddy at Fender who recommended keeping the stock pickup - said that it was virtually identical to a quarter pounder... the pots feel way more substantial than my MIM P-bass... had originally planned to use this as my back-up, but it is now my "first in line".

One thing: the pickups are a little "buzzy" - are there quiter pickups available, or is it simply the "single pole" thing happening?

You might want to shield the bass.

I shielded my two Squiers and their dead quiet.
Mine are Precisions however with the humbucking pup.

I think that you will still have some buzz if you shield it

those tuners, as with all tuners, should be fine. Technically speaking tuners cannot slip. Look at the picture below..

the strings are attached to a shaft connected to the round gear, that gear cannot move unless the tuning peg is turned and that round gear is driven by the tuning peg shaft. As long as the bass is strung properly and tuned 'up' to the note (rather than down, which leaves a difference in tension in the string either side of the nut) then the tuners should hold fine. From what i can tell the only reasons to change tuners is weight, accuracy (more precise ratio's) and cosmetics.


......back on topic, i should hopefully be joining very soon, when my new pickup arrives to put in my refinished bronco bass :bassist:

I just got this one from pablomigraine. Sweet by any standards, I don't care WHAT it says on the headstock.

Here are the mods done to it:
Dimarizio Ultra-Jazz 5 pickups
Professional fretjob
Switchcraft jack
Fender 500k Blend pot
Neck sanded and refinished with Butchers Paste Wax

Was trying to capture the Stig Pedersen look but couldn't quite get it ;)

This bass just kills! Played it for a couple hours last night but the action was really too low for me. I mean I was sitting on the couch playing and when I leaned back the it started fretting out. Lean forward again and it's fine... Way too low for me! hahah
Took some pics and raised the action a bit and played a couple more hours. I think I'll have this bass for a very long time :D

That is a sharp looking unit. I was thinking of getting the 4 string version,(I already have a Squire VMJ and a VMJ FL)but I bought off this forum a Squire VMP TB. I should have it in about 6 days:hyper: I have had a number of bass's in the past and these Squires are really the nicest looking and playing that I have had!

it appears to be an affinity...maybe early 2000s...

havent decided on electronics.
maple/maple mighty mite neck.
you will see this in the classifieds in a week or two most likely.

off to a pawn shop in a bit, possibly picking up an old squier II.

damn i have a problem.

I don't think that's an affinity, all the affinities I've seen have different tuners (with closed backs) and plastic tuner bushings. I think you got yourself a standard there, which I'd say is a step up. Nice score.

When I get home I'll post my Squiers!

Hi! guys, I have found a Squier PB and, besides the bridge saddles needing some adjustment, it is OK! It can never match up to the old Rickenbacker stereo Bass that I bought in 1973, though. It is the first bass that I have bought since then. It cost me £50 GB and it can be back up, and for another muso to double on when I am on guitar or keyboards. I still have to put it through the Carlsbro Viper combo. I shall leave the Tonehenge road-test for a while. I have kitted out for £110!!! It shows you all that you don't need to lay out thousands. Much of the time I do not use amps just cans.
This Squier PB matches the Squier Strat that I bought 18 months ago. These both came via Gumtree and not ebay.

Here's my two modded squiers.

The first is a VM fretless Jazz with basically everything replaced. Mighty Mite unlined fretless P-bass neck, Fender Highway 1 tuners, Bridge and pickups from my Jaguar, Cts stacked pots, Bridge and pickup covers, and a pickguard. There is a Fender logo on it that I had it laying around. The headstock looked naked without it.

The second is a Bronco thats had all its guts replaced. Lindy-Fralin Split - Single coil P bass pickup, Cts pots, Fender Musicmaster string thru bridge, Ping(?) tuners, and a tort pickguard.
