Tried a Lakland

Ha, it took me a second to remember they didn't come like that! I thought the guards matched the pearl blocks pretty well. It's been a while but I think I got them from Jeannie's. I'm not sure if they even exist any longer?

Does anyone know who does Lakland's guards these days?

I'll try writing this without sounding too fanboy - I've owned a number of Skylines...
55-01 MIK*
JO-4 MII
JO-5 MIK
Hollowbody MIK
55-02 MIK
JO-5 MII*
44-51 MII (on it's way...)

While I've loved the neck on every single one of these, it has been more of a bonding issue for me. The first Lakland I bought was the 55-01 and I know some people don't care for the preamp/pickups, but I've learned that less is more (a slight bump on the low and hi and that's it). The 55-02 was phenomenal but had to go for financial reasons... But the JO-4 with Neo's, the MIK JO-5 with Fralins and the Hollowbody with Chi-Sonics never really sang to me, and I just couldn't get into their tone. Now the 44-51 that's coming will be the first 'P' style for me - I'm hoping for good things...

I thought the MK-1's were this size.

MK Shape Dimensions

Length = 4.25 Inches (108mm)
Width = 1.33 Inches (34mm)

I'd guess p2, but somebody else better chime in.

Lakland makes their own guards so you can order from them.
