Tried every filter, these the top 5

Out of the ten plus I've played, my favorite are:
1), 3Leaf Groove Regulator 1 -- crucial attack and decay controls, up/down sweeps, great with dirt behind it.
2), Broughton Joshwah -- built-in dirt, useful release control, only up sweep, always sounds great in a mix or solo.
3), Mr Black Fwonkbeta -- the rudest of the bunch, needs a compressor behind it if you want to save ears and lives, really great at the Laswell thing.
Special mention to the Emma Discumbobulator V2 and the Aguilar Filter Twin. Neither are rudest nor the quackiest, yet both great in a mix.
Also, I'll likely change my mind tomorrow. I've never met a filter that ticked every box. Yet.

I liked the old steel box Q-tron. It was very a little hard to tame but so responsive, like telepathy. I used the Zoom Moog model for quite a while but am now vastly preferring the Eventide H9's Q-wah, Phaser, and Sculpt algorithms.

Octavius Squeezer... My favorite Synth/Filter/Fuzz in a confoundingly impossible to program pedal. I absolutely want a second one, but they usually only come up VERY expensive when I don't have the $$$ to spend.

Laswell thing ehh.... *grumbles as he goes off into the internet wilde to see what this skronkulator fwonkbeta quabulizer thing might be.
I tried for a long time to top my MXR. Couldn't do it, and couldn't justify spending what supposed "upgrades" cost. No matter which filter I had, I kept coming back to the MXR. I'm happy with it and have no GAS for other filters at the moment.
Evidently it was “all of them” so a pretty long list…
Hey apropos of nothing I hope you are feeling better and your health trouble is ironed out.
The Xerograph Dlx also has separate clean and effect volumes. I have to agree with you this is a very important feature for me. A blend and overall output control should theoretically allow the same level of control, but the two explicit volume knobs makes things easy to dial in and tweak on the fly.
Heres my experience:
3 Leaf Audio Chromatron: I own this and currently it is my overall favorite. Can do low-pass or band-pass w/ dry blend. It will be on my big board.
MXR Bass Envelope Filter: Very good. Hard to get a bad sound, only does band-pass w/ a separate dry volume. It is on my smaller board.
Maxon AF-9: I tried this at a store and loved how it sounded. I have to make an A/B shootout between this and the MXR BEF that I really like to see which one I'd prefer on my smaller board.
3 Leaf Audio Proton: The one I tried sounded too dark, almost like there is a steep treble roll-off above 1 kHz. I remeber not liking it at all, which is weird because Iike/own the Chromatron.
Emma Discumbobulator V1: Too subtle even soloed. Sounded like you would not hear it in a dense mix. Didn't try the V2.
DOD FX25B: Has a volume drop issue, but it sounds very good. It is a band-pass filter w/ dry blend. I remember modifying mine for the volume problem and then it was fine.
MXR Bass Auto Wah: I used to own this. It was an OK filter with a weird shimmering effect that you could mix in.
EHX Bass Micro Synth: I used to own the big older model and it made everything sound too muddy for me.
EHX Bassballs: I didn't like this one.
Aguilar Filter Twin: very musical but too gentle sounding for me.

I get it. The filter section is, of course, the Agent 00Funk, which is a filter a lot of folks probably not had the chance to try, but it is easily my favorite envelope filter I’ve ever used (and I’ve used a bunch, including most of the ones mentioned so far).
What would you do with two? Can't sync the LFO's. Filter a filter? Legit curious. I'd put my OS at number 3, with the Subdecay Prometheus 3 and DLX being 1 and 2. Found my envelope company.
I haven’t used very many but the kangra fuzz filter does it for me… only a few sweet spots to dial in if you are going for the normal filter mode - but can also do static

The C4 is like Dr. Who's Tardis - it's "bigger on the inside"! Seriously insane amount of function, really requires the app interface to figure it out and make use of it (I never learned to navigate the actual external buttons, way too few to control the madness inside).
You're lucky to have so many cool pedals to try out.
Back in 2010, I thought I'd like to try my first pedal, and by some luck I bought a GR2. I think it is #35 or something like that. Still have it, and it is awesome, but an envelope isn't exactly an always-on effect for me so it gets lonely.
Did you know... If you plug a bass into the GR2 effects loop return, and run another signal such as a drum track into the main input, then it will output your bass signal with the envelope being triggered on the drum track.
