We finally kicked out our guitarist, so that she can improve and we can, then maybe we'll consider regrouping.

But for now, it's bass, drums, and keyboard. We play largely rock.

Anyways, what's your favorite trio?

And knowing this site, the very first answer will be Rush. Don't . . . Even . . .

(Yes, I do like Rush. No, I do not want to hear more and more and more about how Geddy Lee is our bassy savior)

A long time ago I played bass and sang lead vocals in a keyboard + bass + drums rock trio that was loosely styled on ELP (Emerson, Lake and Palmer - 70s UK prog rock trio). I also swapped to lead for a few songs when the keyboard player would cover the bass with his pedals or more often left hand.

ELP are maybe a bit dated now but have a listen for some ideas. Not really my favourite trio but their style would suit your current line up.

They were #10 on the first list of "best trios" I looked for. Heard of them, never listened. I'll give it a shot.

Sensing a pattern?
Great punk bands. All guitar, drums, and bass.
There's plenty out there. (Not all great, not all punk) Green Day, Cream, Motorhead, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Blink-182, The Police, Nirvana, Presidents of the United States of America. I usually prefer a fuller sound, with either two guitars, or a guitarist and keyboard. Trios can be great, too, though.

Emerson, Lake, & Palmer
Beck, Bogart, & Appice
Pat Travers Band (original lineup)
Budgie
Robin Trower Band
Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble
B.L.T. (Jack Bruce, Robin Trower, & Bill Lordan)
Cream
Grand Funk Railroad
The Police
West, Bruce, & Laing (Leslie West, Jack Bruce, & Corky Laing)

Of course, there are also numerous bands who are 3 piece instrumentally with a lead singer such as:

The Doors
The Who
Led Zeppelin
Motley Crue
Quiet Riot
The Cult
