Tronographic Rusty Box Vid - Less Gain/Moar Gainz

I'll be ordering one this weekend! I've been wanting one of these for a long time, and I have behndy and smurf to thank for that!

I'll have to take a break from TalkBass after this shopping spree... I is gon' be a po' boy!

I know watcha mean. I had to scrape, kick and bite to get the coin together for this. Worth every penny. Of course mine is used, barely, just a couple of times by the previous owner in his studio.

May the Rust be with you.

Just got my rusty box today on my lunch break. I only had an hour to play with it, but I dialed in some great sounds already! Brings a whole new flavor to my Aguilar db750. I already ran it through my pa as well. First impression=this thing just found a permanent home on my board.

It's really a lot more versatile than I originally expected. I had a feeling that it would sound great through a PA, but I was worried about how it would interact with my amp. It really just opened up a whole new world of tone for my setup. I have my aggie tweaked to sound pretty bassy with some hi mids to help cut a little. With the rusty box, I dialed in more mids and highs and it just growls! Kick on the boost and I'm in rock and roll heaven.

NOICE.

yeah, they killed it with this one. i've never run it into an actual amp, i use it as a pre for my power amp -> Aggy GS12's. lurv it.

Yes! That's what I love about it. It can do a lot of different things really well. Haven't tried that setup yet. They could charge that much just for the OD sounds it has. Plus, it can act as a direct box or a preamp. Versatile little guy.

So, I just got my voltage doubler cable from voodoo labs. I know it can run off 24v and I already read somewhere on these forums that you can just use output 1 and 2 on the pp2+. Would it be better to run it on 5 and 6 since those can be 14.2v each? That would then be 28.4v which is closer to the 30v adapter that comes with it. Is this right, or am I missing something?

so I finally got to really test out my rusty box today at rehearsal and I LOVE the tone I get from it. I got a new Yorkville XC410 cab today as well and I love it too.

the only thing I found a bit strange is that I cant get much 'dirt' when I increase the gain knob. I had the line out going to a power amp and then the yorkie and the main out going to our snake.

I have another OD pedal which adds some great tone but I was under the impression the rusty box could get pretty crunchy wit the gain set up high. Idk if I'm doing something wrong...

My Rusty Box gets WAAAAY crunchy running into my Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 w/12" cab. I haven't tried it with my Eden rig though. I think it's the $h*t. All I have to do is turn the gain knob and I'm off to Crunchville.

I'm not sure why, but I was not impressed with the Rusty. I really wanted a nice overdrive/distortion tone to biamp with my acoustic 450. I ran it with my ibanez chorus and into my QSC power amp and for some reason no matter what I did I just couldn't get the tone I wanted. It always came out sound very thin and artificial compared compared to my acoustic or even my V4 with a fuzz pedal. plus I was not a fan of having to use the volume control on the power amp.
But that's just my opinion I suppose

yurp. no one pedal fits for anybody. i always REALLY like hearing what people DIDN'T like about gear i have/am interested in. lol. as long as it's a well thought out and constructive comment like yours, not just somebody being a OMG WRONG TOOBZ ONLY STOOPID SS AMP HUMAN type doucher. thanks!

i can get pretty dirty with mine. the vid in the op of this thread was trying to show how it sounds (at least on my setup) with different gain settings.

AmpedyQuiet - i'd try just going out the Main (i think, that'a the one that pays attention to the Volume knob?) and try kinda silly low Volume huge Gain settings just to see if t gets dirty like that. there IS always a chance something's wrong with yours?

but i dunno. mine gets pretty grimy with EQ's level, Volume maxed, Gain about halfway and past.

man, I really wanna love the pedal! behndy knows how long I've been after one and I love the tone clips I've heard.

I'll try using just the main out once I get my head in. the line out sends full volume so idk, maybe the mackie power amp I used didn't like it?

I'll try main out -> DI -> PA and amp.

...I hope its not the Box :crying:

btw, do you guys use power amps instead of heads? and for those that use bass heads, do you run it into the power amp in ( bypassing the preamp)?

I was gonna say the same thing. Try the Main Out.

I've been using it just as a distortion pedal for the rock band I'm in. I have it just going straight into my amp, so its hitting my preamp as well. I have no complaints and it can get plenty dirty enough. But when I play at church I use it as a direct box and it really helps my bass sound like its going into an amp. It's not as sterile as the sound I was getting before. I haven't sent it straight to a power amp yet, but it's on my to do list. I have a QSC plx3402 just waiting to destroy my neighborhood!

That's what I'll do next

I see, well, I'll give it a try both ways on the Firebass. it'd be nice to have some extra EQ'ing
