Tronographics Rusty Box+Shuttle Max 6.0+Ampeg SVT410HLF-help!

Hi, everyone, I have the setup above, plus a Fender Precision V, and I am looking to get the Shellac/NoMeansNo slightly distorted/"edgy" midrangy sound out of it.

I am looking for advice on the best settings for a LOUD (I play with a guy who is over-the-top loud through his Mesa-Boogie stack) but mostly CLEAN sound that I can add edge to with the Rusty Box (which I leave on all the time). I have had issues with the Shuttle Max 6.0 where the "protect" light comes on and the sound drops out, and I am trying to avoid that happening again without buying new gear.

The Rusty Box has an input gain control knob, a high/lo gain switch, and a volume knob.

The Shuttle Max 6.0 has two channels (tube and SS), each one has a high/lo input switch, a gain knob and a volume knob. In addition, there is a master volume knob. It is rated at 375W at 8 ohms, and 600 watts at 4 ohms.
It runs through a speakon cable into

An Ampeg SVT 410 HLF cabinet, rated at 500 W RMS and 1000 W peak, at 4 ohms.

Any advice from users of this type of setup, or, really, anyone who knows what the heck they are talking about when it comes to impedance, clipping, underpowering, blah blah blah, would be VERY welcome. Thanks in advance for your help!
