Trouble with my bass.. anyone can help??

Hi there.. I have a Fender jazz bass and i installed a set of Di Marzio Ultra Jazz pickups and a Badass bridge and i love the sound when playing my bass alone.. I play my bass through a Trace Elliot 715SMC. I play in a american rock band (creed, nickelback style) and when playing it seems that my bass isn't coping up with the guitars and its like the sound is too trebly..I have changed continously the graphic eq but it seems that it always remains the same..anybody can help i would greatly appreciate it..Thanks

150 watts through a 15" driver isn't going to cope with loud guitars and drums, no matter how you eq it, sorry.

300 watts might do it. I'm barely loud enough with 300 watts through 2 12" drivers without the clip light coming on all the time. Ideally, you're looking at 600 watts and 3 or 4 drivers, then you will be heard, at least by your bandmates...

I think that in a loud band situation, 300 watts is probably going to be a minimum. You can use whatever speakers you want, but 15"s aren't exactly a speaker that will allow you to cut through a mix.

Yes, it sounds like your rig is just too small for a band situation. You need more speakers and wattage especially for playing loud music like Nickelback. Save up a few bucks for something more substantial. Keep the smaller rig for practicing.

Ok, not to be patronising at all, but are you sure your EQ button (the one with "GRAPHIC" written above it) is pressed in? because if it's not, the EQ is out of the loop and the adjustments make no difference to the sound.

Just ensuring against stupid mistakes (yes, on the hunt for practice amps I wondered why the knob labelled "middle" was between "treble" and bass" and not "pre" and "post")

Also, my 715SMC outperforms my brothers laney 300w head, into a 2x10 and 1x18, it's a loud little box!

Mids, mids and more mids. That might do the trick.

Or, get a big amp and a big speaker. That will do the trick.

Seriously, boosting the mids will help you to get heard in most cases.

Try lowering your bridge pup a little. I've found that if they are too high the sound is rather trebbly especially under the D and G string.

Yes, try boosting the mids, that "scooped" sound only works for solos... plus you could also try putting the thing up on a stand of some kind so the floor isn't eating up all your sound.

Your amp does seem pretty underpowered. Boosting mids will help, but probably not enough. The Ultra Jazzes ought to produce more than enough output to carry your sound once you have enough power.

more mids, less lows to stop the amp barfing when pushed and still maintain some presence. Less high to reduce the clank at high volumes. roll off the tone a bit on the bass. You'll have to sacrifice the tone you like a little until you can get a more powerful amp. Try putting the amp in a more strategic position to carry your bass better against the guitars and so you can hear yourself. 150 Watt is a too little for rock bands.

First, add power. 300W is a good place to start.

Second, try flatwounds. The strings will smooth out the sound and reduce the treble and zing common with roundwounds.
