truckbed liner on speaker cabs?

I used Herculiner on a 2x10 cabinet I built. Did 3 coats with long nap baby rollers (just throw the roller covers away after each coat and use a new one for the next coat.) It turned out really good but it's true that any nailholes/screwholes/etc will show through the finish.

I was wondering about the Herculiner. They have it at the local auto parts store for under $30 a can. Did you have to do anythings special to prep the surface before applying it?
